Three tours around Georgia by a rented SUV in Tbilisi. First, you will visit Mtskheta and see the ancient churches and monasteries, and then you can choose one of three directions for traveling - the Western, Eastern or Southern part of the country. #1 - 4X4 Tour in Georgia – Mtskheta, Gori, Mestia, Racha, Chiatura - 7 days


Rented vehicle in Georgian village

Day 1 - In the morning we drive to holly town Mtskheta, an old capital of Georgia where we are going to visit historical landmarks. Mtskheta is UNESCO world heritage site. We will drive to Zedazeni monastery which is located on a high mountain covered by forest. After that we return and have lunch in one of the best restaurants with great view, enjoying traditional Georgian cuisine. Later we head to Didgori mountain, the place of the famous Didgori battle of the 12th century. We stop here and learn about the battle itself and Georgian history of that period. In the evening we return to Tbilisi.

Day 2 – This day we start exploring western part of Georgia. First we are going to visit Gori and examine its fortress which is overlooking the city and surrounding area, then visit archeological museum and make a stop at Stalin’s museum. After lunch we continue driving to Kutaisi, second largest city of Georgia, where we stay overnight.

Day 3 – In the morning we visit Gelati monastery (12th century) UNESCO world heritage site and start driving to Mestia, upper Svaneti region. We will make a stop at the viewpoint - Jvari power station, and reach Mestia in the evening.

Day 4 – This day we stay in Mestia, visit Svanetian House museum of Margiani family, National Museum of Mestia which is an ethnographical and historical treasure, also taste sparkling mineral water. After that we drive to the Glacier of Tchalati and take a walk there. In the evening we use a cable car to reach mountain Zuruldi and then return to Mestia. Stay overnight in Mestia.

Day 5 – This day we drive to Ushguli, one of the most highly located villages in Georgia and also Europe. It is possible to see the highest mountain of Georgia - Shkhara from here, walk to the Queen Tamar’s Towers, and enjoy unique nature. Stay overnight in Ushguli.

Day 6 – From Ushguli we start driving to the pass of Zagaro (approx. 2600m) and then to Racha region. This day we will have lunch in nature and stop for taking pictures of Great Caucasus mountains view. We pass power station of Lajanuri and reach Ambrolauri where we stay for overnight.

Day 7 - In the morning we drive to Shaori water reservoir and visit church in Nikortsminda. Our way goes to Nakerala pass and Chiatura from here. We will examine Pillar of Katskhi, where the monks used to live years ago. After that we return back to Tbilisi by a rented vehicle.

#2 - 4X4 Tour in Georgia - Mtskheta, Kakheti, Gergeti, Stephantsminda, Gudauri - 7 days

Day 2 – Next day we start exploring eastern Georgia and visit Ujarma fortress of the 5th century. Through the Gombori pass we head to the main town of Kakheti region. Here we will take a look at the 900 years old plane tree, explore the King’s fortress and old Telavi. After that drive to Velistsikhe village and visit local family wine cellar, one of the oldest in Georgia. You will know about the old Georgian wine making technology which is the UNESCO non material world heritage, and taste wine straight from “Kvevri” - huge wine pitchers kept underground. From the wine cellar we continue driving to Kvareli, check in the hotel and have free time in the evening.

Day 3 – In the morning we visit Ilia Tchavtchavadze House-Museum, the Georgian writer and duke, known as the "Father of the Nation". After that visit Money Museum, telling us the rich history of Georgian Kingdom and State. After that we are going to visit Kindzmarauli wine factory, explore it and taste wine it produces. From Kvareli we move to Gremi fortress where Kings used to live in 15th - 17th centuries. After visiting Gremi we drive back to Telavi and check in the hotel. Free time in the evening.

Day 4 – This day we are going to visit Akhmeta and Tianeti, and stop at Kvetara fortress on the road. Make a coffebreak in nature and reach local Ananuri fortress of 17th -18th centuries. From Ananuri the way takes us to Kazbegi, Great Caucasus mountains, we taste honey and mineral sparkling water here, after that we arrive in Stephantsminda in the evening. Stay here for overnight.

Day 5 – In the morning we drive up the hill to the monastery of Holly Trinity in Gergeti village, with a great view of Kazbegi mountain, 5047 meters high. After visiting the monastery, we drive downhill and continue our journey to the waterfall. Here we will need to walk approx. 1 hour for reaching the place. We make coffee break at the waterfall and continue driving to Dariali gorge, gate to Georgia and Caucasus. In the second part of the day we visit local House-Museum of Alexandre Kazbegi. Have free time in the evening.

Day 6 - This day we drive to the village Juta which is one of the highest settlements in Georgia. We take a walk to the cliffs of Caucasus Mountains here for 4-5 hours, or maybe even 8 hours to reach the highest places and take a look at the region from above. We return to Stephantsminda in the evening.

Day 7 - This day we drive to Gudauri and Khada gorge, enjoy sightseeing here, off road driving and mineral water. Have lunch in nature and visit Bazaleti lake. Return to Tbilisi by a rented car at the end of the day.

#3 - 4X4 Tour to Georgia – Mtskheta, Vardzia, Akhaltsikhe, Bakuriani, Borjomi - 5 days

Day 2 – This day we start our journey to the southern part of Georgia to explore ancient landmarks and other interesting places. We reach the village located in the mountains and walk up to the Megalith, the fortress which is approx. 4000 years old, built with a huge stones (2700 meters MSL). Then we take a walk for 2-3 hours and have lunch in nature. After that we continue driving to the south and arrive at Vardzia where we stop for overnight.

Day 3 – In the morning we will examine Vardzia complex, the cave town form the golden age of Georgia. Then we head to Khertvisi fortress to explore it. We will arrive at Akhaltsikhe for lunch and visit the local fortress Rabati.

Day 4 – Next day we start driving to Borjomi where we can take a walk in the park with pine trees and enjoy swimming in the pool with sulfur water. Than drive up to Bakuriani through Tsaghveri. In Bakuriani we check in the hotel and take a rest.

Day 5 – This day we continue driving up to mountain pass Tskhratskaro aprox 2400 meters high. It is possible to observe Great Caucasus Mountain Range from here, even see the highest summit of Elbrus (5642 meters high) but only if the weather is good and the sky is clear. After that we drive by a rented SUV to Tabatskuri lake where we make a coffee break, then continue off road to Tsalka and have lunch tasting local natural products and meals. In the evening we arrive in Tbilisi.
